Patrick Edward de Josselin de Jong (July 8, 1922 – January 1, 1999) was a professor of cultural anthropology at the University of Leiden for over 30 years, and department chair from 1957 through 1987. His research specialization was on the Minangkabau in West Sumatra. His bibliography lists 208 titles, including reprints and translations. He retired in 1987 as professor in cultural anthropology and became a professor emeritus thereafter. He was honoured in a farewell symposium where he gave his concluding lecture titled “The Sacred Ruler in Indonesia” in Dutch.

De Josselin de Jong promoveerde in 1951 op onderzoek naar politieke mythen bij de Minangkabau op Sumatra, Indonesië, en in Negri Sembilan, Maleisië. Hij volgde in 1956 zijn oom, de fameuze , als hoogleraar op. Hij bezette zijn leerstoel (culturele antropologie, in het bijzonder van Zuidoost-Azië en het Zuidzeegebied) tot 1987. Als hoogleraar in Leiden ontwikkelde hij de studie van de cognitieve en structurele antropologie aan de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden verder - de zogenaamde "Leidse richting", een Nederlandse voorloper van de structurele antropologie van Claude Lévi-Strauss.
