| - The PGM-17A Thor was the first operational ballistic missile of the United States Air Force (USAF). Named after the Norse god of thunder, it was deployed in the United Kingdom between 1959 and September 1963 as an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with thermonuclear warheads. Thor was 65 feet (20 m) in height and 8 feet (2.4 m) in diameter. It was later augmented in the U.S. IRBM arsenal by the Jupiter. The Thor and later Delta families of space launch vehicles used boosters derived from the initial Thor missile. (en)

- Le PGM-17 Thor est un missile balistique de portée intermédiaire américain déployé au Royaume-Uni en 1958 à une soixantaine d'exemplaires pour contrer la menace de missiles soviétiques de portée équivalente alors que la guerre froide battait son plein. Développé pour le compte de l'US Air Force en un temps record par la société Douglas Aircraft à partir de composants déjà mis au point pour d'autres missiles. Il a une portée de 2 400 km, emporte une charge nucléaire de 2 mégatonnes et est propulsé par un moteur-fusée à ergols liquides. Sa carrière opérationnelle est très brève, puisqu'il est retiré du service en 1963. Quelques exemplaires ont été utilisés en tant que missile antisatellite jusqu'en 1972.
