| - Padma Samten (formerly Alfredo Aveline) is a Brazilian Buddhist lama. Alfredo Aveline has bachelor's and master's degrees in quantum physics from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), where he was professor from 1969 to 1994. During those years, he studied quantum physics, a theory in which he found a similarity with Buddhist thought. In the early 1980s, his interest in Buddhism was intensified. In 1986, he founded Bodhisattva Center for Buddhist Studies (CEBB). In 1993, he was accepted by Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche as his disciple and in 1996 he was ordained lama, a title meaning leader, priest and teacher. Since that time, Lama Samten has traveled and taught, helping to structure and sustain practice groups throughout Brazil. (en)

Physicien, ayant obtenu un baccalauréat et une maîtrise de l’Université fédérale du Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Alfredo Aveline a été professeur de 1969 à 1994.Pendant cette période, il se consacre notamment à l'examen de la physique quantique, théorie dans laquelle il a trouvé des affinités avec la pensée bouddhiste.Au début des années 1980, son intérêt pour le bouddhisme s’est accru.En 1986, il a fondé le Centro de Estudos Budistas Bodisatva (CEBB). Físico, com bacharelado e mestrado em física quântica pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Aveline foi professor de 1969 a 1994. Neste período, dedicou-se especialmente ao exame da física quântica, teoria na qual encontrou afinidade com o pensamento budista. Em 1986 fundou o Centro de Estudos Budistas Bodisatva (CEBB), com sede em Viamão (RS), e que tem atualmente centros de prática e retiros em todo o país. (pt)
