Payar Island (Malay: Pulau Payar) is an island in Kedah, Malaysia. Payar Island status as a marine park offers protection for its diverse marine life. Payar Island is also a snorkelling and diving site famous for its corals. The Payar Island Marine Park is situated in the northern part of the Straits of Melaka, 19 nautical miles (35 km) south of Langkawi and encompasses the islands of Payar, Lembu, Segantang and Kaca which are surrounded by coral reefs. The marine park teems with a diversity of marine life and vegetation.

| - جزيرة بايار تعد جزيرة بولاو بايار واحدة من الجزر العديدة الواقعة مقابل البر الرئيسي لكيدا في مضيق ملقه. وتقع جنوب جزر لنكاوي الأرخبيل الأكبر من منطقة المارينا، أيضا توفر نشاطات الغوص والغطس وتشتهر بكثرة الشعاب المرجانية فيها. كما يقع مارينا بولاو بايار في الجزء الشمالي لمضيق ملقه بنحو 19 ميل بحري أي (35كلم) جنوب جزر لنكاوي وتشمل جزر بولاو بايار وجزيرة بولاو ليمبو وبولاو سيقنتانغ التي تحيط بها الشعاب المرجانية. كما تضم هذه الجزيرة العديد من الأحياء البحرية والنباتات. كما تعيش الكثير من الأنواع المهددة بالانقراض من الأسماك والكائنات البحرية الأخرى في ملاجئ. وتبلغ مسافة هذه الجزيرة حوالي 2كم طولا وعرضها 1.4كم. أيضا تعتبر بولاو بايار من الجزر الأكثر شعبية بسبب نقاء مياهها واعتبارها الجزيرة المثالية للممارسة نشاطات السباحة والغوص. كما وتعتبر منطقة (كورال جاردن) غنية بالشعاب المرجانية اللينة المتعددة الألوان. كما يوجد في بولا بايار العديد من الشواطئ الرملية ومسارات للمشي لأولئك الذين يرغبيون في إستكشاف الجزيرة، كما يمكن للزوار والأطفال تجربة تغذية أسماك القرش. وتشتمل مرافق الجزيرة على شرفات تطل على البحيرة وطاولات للجلوس وحفر للشواء ودورات مياه في أماكن متفرقة. هناك أيضا مركزا للزوار لتزويدهم بالمعلومات حول المنتزه البحري. ويعتبر مارينا بارك من أماكن الغوص ذات الشعبية الكبيرة حتى وإن كانت عمليات تبييض الفحم تجرى حوله، فإنه لايزال نظيفا ونقيا. وهناك أيضا الكثير من مواقع الغوص المرجانية ومجموعة واسعة ومتنوعة من الحياة البحرية. يمكن للزوار أن يصلوا إلى بولاو بايار عن طريق محطة كواه بالقوارب السريعة، أو يمكنهم القدوم من مرجان لنكاوي ويستغرق ذلك حوالي 45 دقيقة للوصول إلى بولاو بايار في حين أن القارب السريع يستغرق ساعة واحدة فقط. ومن المستحسن حجز القوارب قبل الرحلة بيوم واحد على الأقل، كما يمكن الاستفسار من وكلاء السفر في كواه عن نقطة الذهاب لأولئك الذين يعتزمون على السفر عن طريق القوارب السريعة. وتفرض رسوم دخول مقدارها خمسة رينجت على الكبار و 2.50 على الأطفال للدخول إلى المنطقة البحرية. Payar Island is also a snorkelling and diving site famous for its corals. The Payar Island Marine Park is situated in the northern part of the Straits of Melaka, 19 nautical miles (35 km) south of Langkawi and encompasses the islands of Payar, Lembu, Segantang and Kaca which are surrounded by coral reefs. The marine park teems with a diversity of marine life and vegetation. Many endangered species of fishes and marine organisms live within the sanctuary. Measuring 2 km long and 1/4 km wide, Payar Island is the most popular of the islands as its sheltered waters are ideal are for snorkelling, diving and swimming. Among the dive spots is the "Coral Garden", an area covered with bright, multi-hued soft corals. There are several sandy beaches on Payar island for picnics as well as hiking trails for those who wish to explore the island. Just off the beach, one can indulge in the experience of feeding baby sharks. Facilities include gazebos, picnic tables, barbecue pits and restrooms at selected areas. There is also a Visitors' Centre that provides information about the marine park. Pulau Payar Marine Park Scuba diving is popular, even with the recent coral bleaching, and still very good. There are plenty of coral dive sites and a wide variety of marine life. Visitors can get to Payar Island from the Kuah jetty point by catamaran or speed boat. The catamaran services operated by Langkawi Coral, takes about 45 minutes to get to Payar Island while the speed boat takes an hour. It is advisable to book the catamaran service a day before the trip. Enquiries can be made with any travel agent in Kuah or at the jetty point for those intending to travel by speed boat. Apart from the fare, a levy of RM5.00 for adults and RM2.50 for children is charged for entry to the marine park. (en)
