Peter Jenni, (born 17 April 1948) is an experimental particle physicist working at CERN. He is best known as one of the "founding fathers" of the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider together with a few other colleagues. He acted as spokesperson (project leader) of the ATLAS Collaboration until 2009. ATLAS is a world-wide collaboration which started in 1992 involving roughly 3,000 physicists at 183 institutions in 38 countries. Jenni was directly involved in the experimental work leading to the discoveries of the W and Z bosons in the 1980s and the Higgs boson in 2012. He is (co-)author of about 1000 publications in scientific journals.

Peter Jenni obteve um diploma em física em 1973 na Universidade de Berna, com um doutorado em 1976 no Instituto Federal de Tecnologia de Zurique. Em 1972 participou de experimentos no ciclotron síncrono do CERN e de 1974 a 1976 no Síncroton de Prótons do CERN e depois no Anéis de Armazenagem a Intersecções. De 1978 a 1979 esteve no Centro de Aceleração Linear de Stanford. A partir de 1980 trabalhou no CERN e esteve envolvido no experimento UA1 no Síncroton de Prótons. Com este detector e o detector UA1 foram confirmados o bóson W e o bóson Z, sob a direção de Carlo Rubbia. Jenni erwarb sein Physik-Diplom 1973 an der Universität Bern und wurde 1976 an der ETH Zürich promoviert. Schon ab 1972 nahm er an Experimenten am Synchrozyklotron des CERN teil und 1974–1976 am Proton Synchrotron des CERN und danach an den Intersecting Storage Rings. 1978/79 war er am SLAC in Stanford. Ab 1980 gehörte er zum Mitarbeiterstab des CERN und war am UA2 Experiment am Super Proton Synchrotron beteiligt. Mit diesem Detektor und dem UA1-Detektor wurden 1983 unter Leitung von Carlo Rubbia die W- und Z-Bosonen nachgewiesen. 1987 wurde er Leiter der UA2 Gruppe.
