- La philosophie de l'architecture est une branche de la philosophie qui étudie les fondements théoriques, la pratique et les œuvres de l'architecture. La philosophie de l'architecture s'intéresse plus précisément à la pensée architecturale, la production des œuvres et sa place au sein des arts en général, sous trois aspects principaux : esthétique, social et fonctionnel. Elle est indissociable d'une réflexion sur l'espace. L'une des théorisations les plus anciennes qui nous soit parvenue est le traité De l'architecture de Vitruve. Il existe différentes philosophies de l'architecture propres aux grands courants de l'histoire de l'esthétique, élaborées à la fois par des philosophes et des architectes. (fr)
