Pingo Doce (Sweet drop in english) is one of the largest supermarket operators in Portugal with almost 400 stores (Continente, of Sonae Group, is the largest food retailer operating over 550 stores, and Minipreço, of Dia Group, is the chain with more stores c. 620). It belongs to the Portuguese company Jerónimo Martins and the Dutch-based Ahold Delhaize. Since 1992, Pingo Doce has been operated in a joint venture by Jerónimo Martins, in which she holds 51% and the Belgian retail chain Delhaize 49%.
