| - Depuis la sécession en 2011 du Soudan du Sud, majoritairement chrétien, le Soudan actuel est un pays majoritairement musulman à 97 pour cent, mais la Constitution prévoit en théorie la liberté de religion. Il y a 1,5 pour cent d'animistes et 1,5 pour cent de chrétiens (coptes, orthodoxes et catholiques et quelques protestants). Cependant, la Constitution a imposé la charia comme source de la législation dans les États, alors qu'elle reconnaît le « consensus populaire » et « les valeurs et les coutumes du peuple soudanais, y compris ses traditions et ses croyances religieuses ». In September 2020, Sudan constitutionally became a secular state after Sudan's transitional government agreed to separate religion from the state, ending 30 years of Islamic rule and Islam as the official state religion in the North African nation. - تميز السودان بحكم موقعه الجغرافي «الأفريقي-العربي» بانه بلد متعدد الاعراق واللغات والديانات والنشاطات الاقتصادية، بالتالي فان ثقافته مركبة أي انها ثقافة هجينية ذات سمات وملامح أفريقية واخرى عربية اسلامية ومسيحية. من المعروف ان المجتمعات السودانية كانت ولا يزال بعض منها يعتنق الديانات الوثنية، ومنها ما هو متصل بعبادة الملوك، ومنها ما هو متصل ببعض الظواهر الطبيعية واخرى بالكائنات حيث ان بعض الآلهة كانوا ذكوراً وبعضها إناثاً. هذا مع الاعتقاد لدى بعض الجماعات في الوسطاء من البشر سواء أكانوا ملوكاً أو غيرهم للتوسط ما بين الآلهة وعامة الناس.
