Oktober 804 in Trier), war seit dem Jahr 784 der vierte Abt des Klosters Lorsch, wurde um 791 Erzbischof des Bistums Trier und damit zugleich Vorsteher der Abtei Mettlach.Richbod war ein Schüler des fränkischen Gelehrten Alkuin (735–804). Mit seiner auf der Antike fußenden Bildung gehörte Richbod zu den Vertretern der karolingischen Renaissance in der Regierungszeit Karls des Großen. In den Briefen seines Lehrers kommt er unter dem graecisierten Namen Makarius vor. Zu seiner Person ist nur wenig überliefert. Alkuin, mit dem ihn ein dauerndes Freundschaftsverhältnis verband, soll seinen Schüler Richbod wegen dessen Vorliebe für den römischen Dichter Vergil geneckt haben, dessen Werk Aeneis er besser kenne als die Evangelien, soll jedoch von Richbods Gelehrsamkei (de) Richbod (overleden 1 oktober 804) was vanaf 784 abt van Lorsch en ongeveer vanaf 792 bovendien de eerste aartsbisschop van Trier. Richbod was een leerling van Alcuinus aan het hof van Karel de Grote waar hij het pseudoniem Macarius had aangenomen. Volgens Alcuinus was hij een groot bewonderaar van Vergilius en kende hij de Aeneis beter dan het Nieuwe Testament. (nl)
