Robert Geoffrey William Anderson, FSA, FRSE, FRSC (born 2 May 1944) is a British museum curator and historian of chemistry. He has wide-ranging interests in the history of chemistry, including the history of scientific instrumentation, the work of Joseph Black and Joseph Priestley, the history of museums, and the involvement of the working class in material culture. He has been Director of the Science Museum, London, the National Museums of Scotland, the British Museum, London, and president and CEO of the Chemical Heritage Foundation (now the Science History Institute) in Philadelphia.

  • Robert Geoffrey William Anderson (* 2. Mai 1944 in London) ist ein britischer Chemiehistoriker. Von 1992 bis 2002 war er Direktor des British Museum. Anderson studierte Chemie an der Universität Oxford (St. John´s College) mit dem Bachelor-Abschluss 1966 und der Promotion 1977 über inelastische Neutronenstreuung von adsorbierten Molekülen. Danach war er Kurator der chemischen und physikalischen Sammlung am Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh und ab 1975 am Science Museum in London in der Abteilung Chemie. Dort war er mit der Eingliederung der Wellcome Sammlung zur Medizingeschichte beauftragt und danach Leiter der Chemie-Abteilung. Als Sekretär des Beratungsgremiums des Science Museums überwachte er dessen Privatisierung und überwachte danach die Privatisierung des Royal Scottish Museum. Be (de)
