  • Tiarna of Clann Chosgraigh ba ea Ruaidhrí Mac Aodha (bás 1170). Muireadhach mac Aodha mhic Ruaidhrí ba ea a athair. Ba é Ruaidri féin den chéad ghlúin a ghlac an sloinne Mac Aodha. Bhí Clann Mhic Aodha i gceannas ar Chlann Chosgraigh, tuath suite ar an mbruach thoir de Loch Coirib i gContae na Gaillimhe an lae inniu. Fuair Ruaidhrí bás ar oilithreach go Tuaim sa bhliain 1170. Sa 13ú haois, rinneadh de bhall den chlann. (ga)

The surname is now rendered McHugh or Hughes, based on the traditional identification of the name Áed or Aodh with the (unrelated) English name Hugh, though Irish speakers in Galway have also retained a pronunciation that has produced the transcription McGagh, McGah or McGarr.
