| - Das Theater der Unterdrückten ist eine Methodenreihe von Augusto Boal, Rio de Janeiro. Es kam in der Zeit seines Exils in den 1970er-Jahren mit ihm nach Frankreich (Zentrum zur Heilung von Autoritäts- und Erziehungsschäden) und in Workshops nach Deutschland. Vor allem das Forumtheater hat nach der Arbeit mit Schauspielern vor allem Eingang in die politische Bildung gefunden und wird in etwa 70 Ländern weltweit praktiziert. (de)
- The Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) describes theatrical forms that the Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal first elaborated in the 1970s, initially in Brazil and later in Europe. Boal was influenced by the work of the educator and theorist Paulo Freire and his book Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Boal's techniques use theatre as means of promoting social and political change in alignment originally with radical-left politics and later with centre-left ideology. In the Theatre of the Oppressed, the audience becomes active, such that as "spect-actors" they explore, show, analyse and transform the reality in which they are living. (en)

- El teatre de l'oprimit és una tendència teatral on es sistematitza diferents metodologies creades pel dramaturg brasiler Augusto Boal en els anys 1960. Les tècniques per a desenvolupar-lo, que reben influència del Teatre èpic de Bertolt Brecht, comprenen el Teatre invisible, el Teatre imatge i el Teatre fòrum, el Teatre Legislatiu, el Teatre Periòdic i tenen per objecte transformar a l'espectador en protagonista de l'acció dramàtica i, "a través d'aquesta transformació, ajudar a l'espectador a preparar accions reals que el condueixin al propi alliberament". Actualmente tanto , su hijo, como su grupo creado en París en 1979 siguen sus teorías desde Brasil y Francia respectivamente.
