Tiruppan Alvar (Tiruppāṇ Alvar) was one of the twelve Alvars saints of South India, who were poet-saints known for their affiliation to the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. The verses of the Alvars are compiled as the Naalayira Divya Prabandham and the 108 temples revered are classified as divya desams. Tiruppan Alvar is considered the eleventh in the line of the twelve Alvars.

Secondo le agiografie, Tiruppāṇāḻvār fu un trovatello, nato nell'anno 342 del kaliyuga, durante il mese di Kārttikai (ottobre/novembre), sotto il quarto asterismo lunare detto Urōkiṇi che fu raccolto nella risaia di Uṟaiyūr da un fuoricasta (avarṇa) musicante di yāḻ il quale, non avendo figli, fu felice di allevarlo.
