| - La toracocentesi (del grec thōrāko- "tòrax" + kentēsis "perforació") coneguda amb altres noms com toracentesi, paracentesi plelural, paracentesi toràcica o pleurocentesi, és la punció quirúrgica de la paret toràcica amb l'objectiu d'evacuar, mitjançant l'aspiració, el líquid acumulat a la cavitat pleural. L'aparició d'aquest procediment quirúrgic va ser l'any 1852. Aquesta tècnica té indicacions terapèutiques i diagnòstiques. También se denomina: "toracentesis", "paracentesis pleural", "paracentesis torácica" o "pleurocentesis". Este procedimiento quirúrgico fue descrito por primera vez en 1852. Es una técnica que aporta ventajas terapéuticas (permite eliminar el líquido de la cavidad pleural) y diagnósticas (posteriormente se analiza dicho líquido). (es)

A cannula, or hollow needle, is carefully introduced into the thorax, generally after administration of local anesthesia. - Een pleurapunctie (of thoracentesis) is een invasieve procedure om pleuravocht of lucht bij een pneumothorax te verwijderen, waarbij er verdere diagnostiek naar dit vocht kan plaatsvinden.
