Novak Djokovic defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6(7–2) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2008 Australian Open. It was his first major title, the first of a record nine Australian Open titles, and the first of 21 major men's singles titles overall. Djokovic became the first Serbian man to win a major singles title.
