Flädle is a southern German dish from the region of Schwaben, derived from savory pancakes. In Austria a similar dish to Flädle is called Frittaten; the word frittaten is derived from the Italian frittata ("frying"). Frittaten are thicker than Flädle. In other parts of Germany, it is known as Eierkuchensuppe, derived from the regional name for Eierkuchen.
