Gosiwon (Korean: 고시원) are a kind of single room occupancy found in Korea. Originally designed for students preparing to take exams, they are characterized by low rent, shared bathrooms and kitchens, and very limited private space. They are legally defined as "industrial activity that operates boarding businesses or other unclassified accommodation facilities that provide meals and lodging facilities together for a contract period" in the Korean standard industry classification of the National Statistical Office.
