John Eric Winchester is a fictional character on The CW's series Supernatural, and the protagonist of the comic book spin-off series Supernatural: Origins. Developed by series creator Eric Kripke, the character is mainly portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. John is the father of Sam and Dean Winchester, the show's protagonists. On December 12, 2018 it was announced that Morgan would return for the show's 300th episode, "Lebanon", reprising his role as John Winchester. On March 21, 2022, was cast as young John in the spin off prequel series The Winchesters.
