Es wird heute in jedem Modem als Subroutine eines eingebetteten Mikroprozessors verwendet. ER war Herausgeber der Proceedings of the IEEE und Präsident der , war Vorsitzender des US Air Force Scientific Advisory Board und des Technological Advisory Council der Federal Communications Commission. Außerdem ist er Mitglied des Defense Science Board. 1998 erhielt er den Golden Jubilee Award der IEEE Information Theory Society für die Erfindung von adaptiven Equalizer-Methoden. 1987 erhielt er den Marconi-Preis und 1995 die IEEE Edison Medal. Er ist Fellow des IEEE und der National Academy of Engineering. Lucky ist auch für Essays und Reden zu Technologie und Technikkultur bekannt. Seit 1982 hat er eine zweimonatlich erscheinende Kolumne (Reflections) im Magazin IEEE Spectrum.
