dbo:abstract
Space propaganda is communication about achievements in space science and technology, used primarily to influence an audience and further a particular political agenda. Space propaganda was heavily relied on during the Cold War, and its use continues to this day. During the Cold War, both the United States and the Soviet Union were in an ideological battle, and used political warfare to convince "Third World" nations that each side was superior. This was considered most easily done through demonstrations of military and technological superiority. As former allies in World War II, both sides inherited German rocket technology, which they leveraged into intercontinental ballistic missile defenses and the beginning of development of spaceflight capability. These rapid technological advances created a suitable environment for the development of space propaganda.
