Mis sur cale en 1983 sous le nom de Stena Polonica et lancé l'année suivante, son contrat de construction sera cependant résilié par Stena Line en 1986 en raison d'un important retard pris dans les travaux de finition. Rachetée dans un premier temps par l'armateur norvégien Fred.
