Girolamo Arnaldi (31 January 1929 – 30 January 2016) was an Italian historian. Born in Pisa, in 1951 Arnaldi graduated in Medieval History at the University of Naples, and then completed his postgraduate studied at the in the same city. He was professor of Medieval History at the University of Bologna from 1964 to 1970 and at the Sapienza University of Rome from 1970 to 1999. Between 1966 and 1970 he was president of the (ISIME) in Rome. Girolamo Arnaldi (Pisa, Itàlia, 31 de gener de 1929 - 30 de gener de 2016) va ser un historiador i professor universitari italià. Del 1964 al 1970. Arnaldi fou professor d'història medieval a la Universitat de Bolonya. Deixà la capital de l'Emília-Romanya per anar a ensenyar la Universitat de Roma La Sapienza, on treballà del 1970 al 1999. Va ser cavaller de la Legió d'Honor, cavaller de l'Orde de les Arts i les Lletres i Grand-Croix de l'Orde del Mèrit de la República Italiana. També fou membre de l'Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres com associat estranger, escollit el 25 de febrer del 2000. Jego badania koncentrowały się przede wszystkim na roli Włoch i papiestwa w kształtowaniu cywilizacji średniowiecznej. W 1991 r. został członkiem zagranicznym PAN. Girolamo Arnaldi, anche noto come Gilmo Arnaldi (Pisa, 31 gennaio 1929 – Roma, 30 gennaio 2016), è stato uno storico italiano. Girolamo Arnaldi (31 January 1929 – 30 January 2016) was an Italian historian. Born in Pisa, in 1951 Arnaldi graduated in Medieval History at the University of Naples, and then completed his postgraduate studied at the in the same city. He was professor of Medieval History at the University of Bologna from 1964 to 1970 and at the Sapienza University of Rome from 1970 to 1999. Between 1966 and 1970 he was president of the (ISIME) in Rome. Arnaldi was the author of several historical essays, and his researches mainly focused on the role of Italy and of the papacy in shaping the medieval civilization. He also directed several collective works such as the Encyclopaedia of the Popes and the Enciclopedia Fridericiana for Treccani. He collaborated with RAI for the documentary series La straordinaria storia dell’Italia. His last book was L’Italia e i suoi invasori (2002), which in 2005 was translated in English and published by Harvard University Press with the title Italy and Its Invaders.
