There, he was cared for by his governess, "Lala" Bill, and befriended local children whom his mother had gathered to be his playmates. He died at Sandringham in 1919, following a severe seizure, and was buried at nearby St Mary Magdalene Church. His illness was disclosed to the wider public only after his death. John's seclusion has subsequently been brought forward as evidence of inhumanity by the royal family. João Carlos Francisco (em inglês: John Charles Francis) (Sandringham, 12 de julho de 1905 - 18 de janeiro de 1919) foi o mais novo dos seis filhos do rei Jorge V do Reino Unido e de sua esposa, a rainha Maria de Teck. À época do seu nascimento, seu pai era o Príncipe de Gales e herdeiro do rei Eduardo VII. Com a ascensão de Jorge V, em 1910, João passou a ocupar o quinto lugar na linha de sucessão ao trono britânico. Em 1909, João foi diagnosticado com epilepsia e acreditava-se também que sofresse de algum tipo de deficiência intelectual, possivelmente autismo. À medida que sua condição se deteriorava, ele foi enviado para a Sandringham House, sendo mantido longe dos olhos do público. Lá, ele era cuidado por sua governanta, "Lala" Bill, e fez amizade com as crianças locais, selecionadas por sua mãe para servir-lhe de companhia. Foi também nessa residência que o príncipe morreu, em 1919, após uma grave crise convulsiva, sendo sepultado na vizinha igreja de Santa Maria Madalena.
