Back in the United States, she exhibited, along with other modern artists like Mary Cassatt, Vincent Van Gogh, Edgar Degas, and Claude Monet at the 1913 New York Armory Show. She set up residence in New York City and spent the summers with family in Montgomery, Alabama. She taught at Art Students League of New York for 23 years and during the summers, she was an instructor at the Dixie Art Colony. Since returning from Paris, she accepted commissions for works of art and exhibited her paintings in New York City. She became known in the South for her scenes of post-slave rural African American life. She was an organizer for the 1915 Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture by Women Artists for the Benefit of the Woman Suffrage Campaign and created works of art for the event."@en . . . .
