From 1964 to 1974, T\u00FCnnerman was rector of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua at Le\u00F3n. There he met eventual human rights lawyer and Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights president Vilma N\u00FA\u00F1ez as well as his successor as rector and later president of Nicaragua\u2019s Supreme Electoral Council Mariano Fiallos Oyanguren.
