Soucieux de relancer l'id\u00E9e de la traction \u00E0 vapeur, Richard Trevithick envisage un coup publicitaire, en installant \u00E0 Bloomsbury, juste au sud de l'actuel Euston Square \u00E0 Londres, une ligne circulaire prot\u00E9g\u00E9e par une haute palissade. La voie \u00E9tait constitu\u00E9e de plaques \u00E0 \u00E9paulement (c'est la voie et non la roue qui assure le guidage). La locomotive, de type 011, tire \u00E0 une vingtaine de km/h un wagon en bois accueillant des passagers au prix de cinq puis deux shillings la place. L'attraction est propos\u00E9e du 8 juillet 1808 au 18 septembre 1808. Richard Trevithick affirmait que sa machine battrait n'importe quel cheval du royaume sur une course de 24 heures. L'ing\u00E9nieur cornouaillais ne parvint pas \u00E0 susciter l'int\u00E9r\u00EAt d'investisseurs pour la construction de lignes de chemin de fer, notamment par manque de voies capables de supporter le poids de ses machines.
