"Danburit ist ein Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der \u201ESilikate und Germanate\u201C, das an verschiedenen Fundorten zum Teil reichlich vorhanden sein kann, insgesamt aber wenig verbreitet ist. Es kristallisiert im orthorhombischen Kristallsystem mit der chemischen Zusammensetzung Ca[B2Si2O8] und entwickelt meist prismatische bis s\u00E4ulige Kristalle bis etwa 50 cm L\u00E4nge, aber auch k\u00F6rnige oder massige Mineral-Aggregate. Reiner Danburit ist durchsichtig und farblos. Durch vielfache Lichtbrechung aufgrund von Gitterbaufehlern oder multikristalliner Ausbildung kann er aber auch wei\u00DF erscheinen und durch verschiedene Fremdbeimengungen eine graue, gr\u00FCnliche, r\u00F6tliche, gelbliche oder br\u00E4unliche Farbe annehmen, wobei die Transparenz entsprechend abnimmt. Seine Strichfarbe ist allerdings immer wei\u00DF. Sichtbare Kristallfl\u00E4chen weisen einen glas- bis fett\u00E4hnlichen Glanz auf, massige Aggregate sind dagegen eher matt. Mit einer Mohsh\u00E4rte von 7 bis 7,25 geh\u00F6rt Danburit zu den harten Mineralen und ist wie das Referenzmineral Quarz in der Lage, Fensterglas zu ritzen.
