| - On 22 July 1971 Salvador Allende and Alejandro Lanusse, the Presidents of Chile and Argentina, signed an arbitration agreement (the Arbitration Agreement of 1971). This agreement related to their dispute over the territorial and maritime boundaries between them, and in particular the title to the Picton, Nueva and Lennox islands near the extreme end of the American continent, which was submitted to binding arbitration under the auspices of the United Kingdom government. - El laudo arbitral sobre la disputa de soberanía conocida como Conflicto del Beagle fue dado a conocer el 2 de mayo de 1977 por la reina Isabel II en nombre del gobierno del Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte, árbitro formal de esa disputa limítrofe entre la Argentina y Chile. - Nach Jahrzehnten diplomatischer Bemühungen im Beagle-Konflikt einigten sich 1971 die Präsidenten Chiles und Argentiniens, Salvador Allende und General Alejandro Lanusse, im Arbitration Agreement, fortan Kompromiss genannt, eine Regelung über den Verlauf der gemeinsamen Grenze im Beagle-Kanal einem internationalen Schiedsgericht zu überlassen. Im Laufe der konfliktträchtigen Grenzziehung hatte man mehrere Verträge zu Grenzfragen unterschrieben, die Verpflichtungen zu Verfahrensfragen, Fristen und Instanzen festlegten.
