The Democratic Alternative (Serbian: Демократска aлтернатива, romanized: Demokratska alternativa; abbr. ДА, DA) was a political party in Serbia. It was founded in July 1997 by secession of certain members from the ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), most notably Nebojša Čović who served as the party's president during its entire existence. It later merged into the Social Democratic Party (SDP), whom its leadership took over. At the December 2003 parliamentary election, the party won 84,463 votes or 2.2% of the popular vote thus failed to pass the electoral threshold.

It later merged into the Social Democratic Party (SDP), whom its leadership took over. Democratic Alternative was part of the 2000-2003 Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS), which ran on the December 2000 parliamentary elections. It received 6 seats of the 176 won by the Democratic Opposition. Nebojša Čović became the interim Deputy Prime Minister on October 24, 2000. On 25 January 2001 the new government was elected in which he served as Deputy Prime Minister until 18 March 2004. For a short time from 12 March 2003 to 17 March 2003 Čović was the acting Premier in the wake of the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. At the December 2003 parliamentary election, the party won 84,463 votes or 2.2% of the popular vote thus failed to pass the electoral threshold. (en)

Il a été créé en 1997, à la suite d'une scission en 1997 par les membres pro-démocratiques du Parti socialiste de Serbie, qui exerçait alors le pouvoir. Son président était Nebojša Čović. Il a ensuite fusionné avec le Parti social-démocrate. En 2000-2003, Alternative démocratique a fait partie de la coalition de l'Opposition démocratique de Serbie, qui a remporté les , obtenant 6 siège sur les 176 gagnés par l'Opposition démocratique. Nebojša Čović fut alors vice-premier ministre par intérim le 24 octobre 2000 ; il fut ensuite vice-premier ministre du 25 janvier 2001 au 18 mars 2004. Aux élections législatives serbes de 2003, le parti a obtenu 84 463 voix, soit 2,2 % des suffrages, ce qui ne lui a pas permis d'avoir de députés.

Il partito debutta in occasione delle elezioni parlamentari del 1997, in cui ottiene circa l'1,5% dei voti e un seggio. Successivamente entra a far parte dell'Opposizione Democratica di Serbia, ampio schieramento guidato da Zoran Đinđić contrapposto ai socialisti. La coalizione di opposizione vince le elezioni parlamentari del 2000 e DA ottiene sei seggi. Čović è eletto e, dopo l'assassinio del Primo ministro della Serbia Đinđić, per un breve periodo assume ad interim la guida del governo. Alle successive elezioni parlamentari del 2003, DA si presenta autonomamente e raccoglie il 2,2% dei voti, non riuscendo così ad eleggere alcun parlamentare.
