It is located in Egmond aan den Hoef in the municipality of Bergen and lies about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) west of Alkmaar. The castle dates from the 11th century and is the ancestral seat of the Egmond family, whose members became sovereign Dukes of Guelders, Counts of Egmond and Princes of Gavere, Counts of Buren and Leerdam. - De Slotkapel in Egmond aan den Hoef is een eenbeukig kerkgebouw met pseudotransept gelegen bij bij de ruïne van het Kasteel Egmond. Ze is vooral in gebruik voor huwelijksplechtigheden. De kapel is sinds 1987 eigendom van Stichting Restauratie Slotkapel. In 1573, tijdens het beleg van Alkmaar, werden het kasteel, de Slotkapel en ook de abdij van Egmond Binnen in opdracht van geuzenaanvoerder Diederik Sonoy onder vuur genomen en in brand gestoken, omdat hij bang was dat het Spaanse leger, dat Alkmaar belegerde, het kasteel zou bezetten.
