Hans-Georg Stümke (16 September 1941 in Königsberg – 29 September 2002 in Berlin) was a German gay activist, author, and historian. The son of an army officer, Stümke grew up in Celle, Lower Saxony, and worked first as a meteorologist for the German army. He returned to school to complete his secondary education and enrolled at the Free University of Berlin to study history. In the early 1960s, he came out as a gay man, and he was an LGBT activist in the 1970s. Stümke was among the first to report in West Germany about the Stonewall riots in New York City, which helped spark the founding of the nationwide gay rights movement. In the following years he was active in the LSVD and authored pioneering books about German gay history and gay seniors. His humorous travel guide to Playa del Ingles

Seine politischen Aktivitäten entfaltete er zunächst im Kommunistischen Bund, später innerhalb der Grünen, aber vor allem als Wegbereiter der nach 1968 entstehenden westdeutschen, später gesamtdeutschen Schwulenbewegung, die er in unterschiedliche Bündnisse manövrierte, aber ohne sie abhängig werden zu lassen, ganz im Sinne der Machtdefinition von Hannah Arendt. Von ihm kamen die ersten Nachrichten über die Stonewall-Unruhen in New York, die in Deutschland zum Initial für die so genannten Christopher-Street-Day-Demonstrationen wurden, deren anfängliche Teilnehmerzahlen sich von einigen Dutzend zu Millionen entwickelten. Er trat früh in den LSVD ein, unterstützte den Verband beratend und schriftstellerisch, auch bei seiner Ausweitung des Schwulenverbandes in der DDR zum gesamtdeutschen Lesben- und Schwulenverband. Die taz bezeichnete ihn als einen „der wichtigsten Köpfe der bundesrepublikanischen Homobewegung“. Stümke veröffentlichte mehrere Bücher, teilweise unter Pseudonym. Einladungen zu Vorträgen kam er häufig und gerne nach, in denen er politisch nachhaltig wirkte. Mit 61 Jahren starb er in Berlin an Krebs. Sein Urnengrab liegt auf dem Alten St.-Matthäus-Kirchhof.
