Lake Waswanipi is a lake located in municipality of Eeyou Istchee Baie-James (municipalité), in administrative region of Nord-du-Québec, in Quebec, in Canada. Waswanipi Lake extends into the townships of Bergères, Bossé, Nelligan, Bellin and Ailly. Forestry is the main economic activity of the sector. Recreational tourism activities come second. The surface of Waswanipi Lake is usually frozen from early November to mid-May, however, safe ice circulation is generally from mid-November to mid-April.

Najbliższym ośrodkiem miejskim jest oddalone o ok. 60 km na południowy zachód Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Waswanipi ma kształt litery J, wrzynający się w wody jeziora półwysep Lay oddziela zatokę Baie du Sud-Ouest, na której znajdują się trzy duże wyspy, od reszty zbiornika. W roku 1818 superintendent Kompanii Zatoki Hudsona, Alexander Christie, nadał jezioru nazwę Woswonnupy Lake, rok później zmienił ją na Waswannupy Lake. Albert Peter Low w swoim raporcie z 1896 zaznaczył na mapie jezioro jako „Waswanipi L.”. Tę nazwę pochodzenia indiańskiego powtórzył na swojej mapie Henry O'Sullivan w 1901, natomiast w 1968 roku otrzymała statu (pl)

The hydrographic slope of Waswanipi Lake is accessible via the James Bay Road from the Southwest (Matagami), then branches northwards by cutting the Canet River, located at Northwest of Goéland Lake. Forest roads serve the southern part of the lake. The Canadian National railway linking Matagami to Chibougamau passes from the south side of the lake on the strip of land between Pusticamica Lake and Waswanipi Lake. The surface of Waswanipi Lake is usually frozen from early November to mid-May, however, safe ice circulation is generally from mid-November to mid-April. (en)

Des routes forestières desservent la partie Sud du lac. Le chemin de fer Canadien National reliant Matagami à Chibougamau passe du côté Sud du lac sur la bande de terre entre le lac Pusticamica et le lac Waswanipi.
