The Medea class were a class of destroyers that were being built for the Greek Navy at the outbreak of World War I but were taken over and completed for the Royal Navy for wartime service. All were named after characters from Greek mythology as result of their Greek heritage.

Die als Kriti und Lesvos bei John Brown sowie als Chios und Samos bei Fairfield vor Kriegsausbruch begonnenen Zerstörer wurden im August 1914 von der Royal Navy übernommen und für den Kriegseinsatz fertiggestellt. Alle Schiffe wurden auf Grund ihrer Herkunft nach Gestalten der griechischen Mythologie benannt.
