- Als Elternmisshandlung (auch Parent battering) werden gewaltsame Übergriffe und Aggression von Kindern und Jugendlichen gegenüber ihren Eltern verstanden. Das Gewaltspektrum geht dabei von verbaler und physischer Gewalt wie Drohen, Beschimpfen, Erpressen, Beklauen und Quälen bis hin zu schwerer Körperverletzung. In seltenen Fällen kommt es zu Tötungsdelikten seitens der Kinder an ihren Eltern. (de)

| - La violència filio-parental (des d'ara VFP) en els últims anys, ha provocat que diversos investigadors despertin el seu interés sobre aquest tema, però, així i tot, no hi ha un consens, una definició definitiva per al concepte de violència filio-parental, existint així diferents defincions de diversos autors. Per aquest motiu, i tenint en compte totes aquestes definicions i recopilant informació de l'article , Propuesta de definición de violència filio-parental: consenso de la sociedad española para el estudio de la violéncia filio- parental on tenen en compte diversos aspectes, on segueixen un mètode concret, definirem aquest tipus de violència com una sèrie de conductes repetitives de violència física, psicològica o econòmica, dirigida cap als progenitors o a aquelles persones que tinguin la responsabilitats dels nens/es i que prenen el seu paper. No entra en aquesta definició les agressions puntuals, les agressions que es produeixen quan no es disposa de totes les facultats mentals, ja sigui per malaltia, intoxicacions o efectes de drogues.En definitiva, considera com VFP tot acte d'abús exercit pels fills cap als pares amb l'objectiu de guanyar poder i control sobre ells i comporta seqüeles per a les víctimes. Cada any s'obren més de 4.000 expedients a menors per aquest tipus de delicte, però només es denuncien els casos més greus, entre un 10% i un 15% del total. Al punt d'índex de violència filio-parental, podem observar les dades dels casos que tenen lloc, el nombre de denúncies i el percentatge d'aquesta violència. (ca)

- La violencia filio-parental (VFP) o violencia de los hijos a los padres es el conjunto de conductas reiteradas de agresiones (golpes, empujones, arrojar objetos), (insultos repetidos, amenazas) o (gestos amenazadores, ruptura de objetos apreciados) dirigida a los padres o a los adultos que ocupan su lugar. Se incluyen, entonces, las amenazas y los insultos, ya sean realizados a través de gestos o verbalizaciones, las agresiones físicas de cualquier tipo, o la ruptura consciente de objetos apreciados por el agredido. Además, la violencia debe ir dirigida contra los padres o aquellas figuras parentales que les sustituyan: tutores, educadores, etc. No se incluiría, por tanto, en esta definición la violencia ocasional sin antecedentes y que no se repite. Parents are quite often subject to levels of childhood aggression in excess of normal childhood aggressive outbursts, typically in the form of verbal or physical abuse. Parents feel a sense of shame and humiliation to have that problem, so they rarely seek help. ‘Parent abuse’ has been defined by Cottrell (2001, p. 3) as "any harmful act of a teenage child intended to gain power and control over a parent. The abuse can be physical, psychological, or financial". Though this type of abuse often takes places during the teen years (often from 12 to 17), it can happen earlier than that, with some reports showing cases of children younger than 10 years old. For example, a case of a daughter providing housing for her elderly parents. The daughter often insults her parents, controls what they do or go, and expects them to do whatever she says, because she is the owner of the house. A Sheriff Deputy was sent to investigate, but the parents were very positive about living with her so the report by the Social Workers was dismissed. The effects of experiencing abuse from one's child can be profound. In the short term, ongoing parent abuse has been found to impact on a parent's and other family members’ physical and psychological health, with specific negative emotions such as fear, shame, guilt and despair commonly reported (Cottrell & Monk, 2004). The causes are yet to be thoroughly researched, but three main variables have been suggested as possible contributors to child to parent abuse: 1.
* the presence of a mental health condition; 2.
* attachment difficulties (which might or might not be related to a mental health issue) and/or; 3.
* previous experiences of abuse. A child may be abusive because they have suffered some form of abuse themselves, although this may not always be the case. Parent abuse may derive not only from individualized issues, but also from structural societal and cultural factors. (en)
