В 1860 году он создал первое орудие собственной конструкции и соответствующий снаряд. Изобретение было запатентовано в 1861 году. (ru) Parrott-Geschütze (engl. Parrott rifle), benannt nach ihrem Entwickler Robert Parker Parrott, waren Vorderlader-Artilleriegeschütze aus der Zeit des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs. Das Kanonenrohr wurde aus Gusseisen hergestellt und war mit Zügen versehen, aufgrund der hohen Sprödigkeit des Materials wurde das Rohr am hinteren Ende mit einem Stahlmantel verstärkt. Parrott-Geschütze wurden in verschiedenen Größen (Kaliber von 2,9" (74 mm) bis 10" (250 mm)) hergestellt und als Feldgeschütze, Festungs- und Belagerungsartillerie und als Schiffsgeschütze eingesetzt. Fue el cañón con ánima rayada reglamentario del ejército y la armada estadounidenses desde la década de 1860 hasta la de 1880. Su creador fue el capitán del ejército estadounidense Robert P. Parrott y los fabricaba en la fundición particular de West Point, Colds Spring, New York. Parrott falleció en 1877, pero se siguieron fabricando cañones bajo su patente varios años después. (es)
