Według danych encyklopedii Cesnur w 2017 roku było we Włoszech 471,3 tys. protestantów posiadających obywatelstwo włoskie, a także 216,8 tys. nieposiadających obywatelstwa. Razem protestantyzm we Włoszech obejmuje 688 tysięcy osób. Protestantyzm stanowi największą grupę mniejszościową wśród osób z obywatelstwem włoskim, wyprzedzając nawet wyznawców islamu. (pl)

La principale de ces églises historiques est l'Église évangélique vaudoise, fondée avant la Réforme protestante. Elle est présente principalement en Italie, dans les Vallées vaudoises du Piémont et Torre Pellice est son siège principal. Elle est adhérente de l'Alliance réformée mondiale et de la Conférence des Églises protestantes des pays latins d'Europe. Les autres Églises protestantes, en augmentation, sont surtout de courants évangéliques. La dénomination protestante majoritaire est de loin le pentecôtisme avec 340 000 adhérents, suivi par les Églises dites « historiques » avec 71 600 membres. Le CESNUR (think tank italien spécialisé dans les études religieuses, en particulier sur les nouvelles religions en Italie) estime que le nombre de protestants en Italie serait de 442 377, soit environ 0,73% de la population totale. Toutefois, en raison de la difficulté de tenir des décomptes précis concernant les appartenances religieuses des immigrés dans le pays, ce chiffre n'est qu'une approximation. (fr)

- Il protestantesimo in Italia conta almeno 750 000 fedeli che sono suddivisi in molte denominazioni, suddivisibili tra Chiese "storiche" (valdesi, luterani, calvinisti/riformati, anglicani, battisti, metodisti), restaurazioniste (Chiese di Cristo), libere, pentecostali, "Movimento di Santità" (Holiness Movement) e movimenti minori. Secondo le stime del Centro studi sulle nuove religioni (Cesnur), nel 2012 tra i cittadini italiani (escludendo i cittadini stranieri residenti in Italia) vi erano 435 000 protestanti. Molto più incerto risulta il calcolo se si vuole avere un dato che includa anche gli stranieri, a causa dell'impossibilità di avere dati certi sull'immigrazione irregolare: in questo caso, il Cesnur elabora una stima che ha valore di semplice congettura e prevede un incremento del numero dei protestanti di 212 200 unità. I protestanti più numerosi in Italia sono i pentecostali, con circa 300 000 fedeli, fra cui il ramo delle Assemblee di Dio in Italia, che, forti dei loro 250 000 fedeli, costituiscono la più grande organizzazione protestante e altri fedeli suddivisi in altre correnti pentecostali minori, fra le quali la Federazione delle chiese pentecostali con 50 000 fedeli, la Chiesa apostolica italiana con circa 10 000 e altre Chiese pentecostali libere. Le confessioni protestanti "storiche" sono: quella valdese con 15000 membri, battista 6000, Assemblee dei fratelli 15 000, anglicana 3000, luterana tedesca 4500, metodista (in unione con i valdesi) 3000, Chiesa Protestante Unita (luterani di lingua italiana) alcune centinaia di membri. Altri 15 000 in varie Chiese con difficoltà di calcolo dei propri membri come i neoapostolici cristiani, vari riformati (calvinisti), la Chiesa di Scozia in Italia, la Chiesa Presbiteriana in Italia, l'Esercito della salvezza, l'Associazione comunità cristiane. Największym nurtem protestantyzmu we Włoszech jest ruch zielonoświątkowy, który obejmuje takie związki wyznaniowe jak Zbory Boże we Włoszech, Kościół Apostolski we Włoszech, a także członków etnicznych Kościołów pentekostalnych z Ameryki Łacińskiej, Afryki i Azji. Według Operation World w 2010 roku we Włoszech było 450 tysięcy zielonoświątkowców. Obok Kościołów zielonoświątkowych działają tutaj także Kościoły „historyczne”: waldensów, metodystów, luteran i baptystów. (pl)
