The right of coinage in the Holy Roman Empire (in German Münzregal) was one of the so-called regalia (also called royal privileges or sovereign rights). It consisted of the right to issue regulations governing the production and use of coins. It covered the specification of currency, the right to mint and the right to use coins and the profit from minting. It is variously referred to in English sources as the "right of coinage", "coinage regality", "regality of coinage", "minting privileges" and "coinage prerogative".

Myntregale är urgammalt i Sverige. Den förste som lät prägla mynt var kung Olof Skötkonung. Myntregale blev först 1809 inskränkt genom dåvarande regeringsformens bestämmelse (§ 79), att riksdagens bifall fordras för ändring av myntets skrot eller korn. Begreppet skrot och korn är beteckning för bruttovikten respektive finvikten hos guld- och silvermynt. Skrot avser myntets totala vikt, korn den ingående vikten av ädelmetall. Relationen mellan skrot och korn kallas halt. I överförd betydelse är uttrycket detsamma som art, beskaffenhet. (sv)
