| - Οι The Gathering είναι ολλανδικό alternative rock συγκρότημα, το οποίο δημιουργήθηκε στο Ος της Ολλανδίας το 1989. Το συγκρότημα πραγματοποίησε μία μετάβαση από το ατμοσφαιρικό Death-doom των πρώτων του κυκλοφοριών, στο gothic και το progressive metal μετά την προσθήκη της τραγουδίστριας Άννεκε Βαν Γκιρσμπέργκεν, το 1995. Το 1998, με το άλμπουμ "", το συγκρότημα ενσωμάτωσε πολλά alternative rock στοιχεία στον ήχο του. - The Gathering (engl. für Die Versammlung oder Die Zusammenkunft) ist eine Rockband aus der niederländischen Stadt Oss. Die 1989 gegründete Band durchlebte im Verlauf der Bandgeschichte zahlreiche Stilwechsel von Death Metal über Doom hin zu progressivem Rock. In Anlehnung an das Genre Trip-Hop nannte die Band ihren Stil selbst auch „Trip Rock“. Die Diskografie der Band umfasst zehn Studioalben und drei DVDs. Im Jahr 1999 gründeten The Gathering mit Psychonaut Records ihre eigene Plattenfirma. (de)

In 1998, with the release of their fifth studio album How to Measure a Planet?, they had a major shift in musical style, with the group acknowledging the growing influence of shoegazing, post-rock, experimental rock and the more ethereal sounds of 4AD bands, such as Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, as well as Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Massive Attack; they expanded their sound, which acquired characteristics of progressive, alternative rock, and trip hop and gained success and recognition beyond the European borders. Jako jeden z pierwszych zespołów doom-metalowych dołączył damski wokal do męskiego growlingu. Obecnie zespół tworzy muzykę w klimacie trip rocka z elementami rocka progresywnego i atmosferycznego, który ma jeszcze większe powodzenie wśród odbiorców. Nazwa zespołu została zaczerpnięta z filmu Nieśmiertelny z Christopherem Lambertem w roli głównej.
