It was known as the Directorate of Plans from 1951 to 1973; as the Directorate of Operations from 1973 to 2005; and as the National Clandestine Service (NCS) from 2005 to 2015. The DO "serves as the clandestine arm of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the national authority for the coordination, de-confliction, and evaluation of clandestine operations across the Intelligence Community of the United States". - Das Directorate of Operations (von 1952 bis 1973 Directorate of Plans, von 2005 bis 2015 National Clandestine Service genannt) ist eine Abteilung des US-amerikanischen Auslandsgeheimdienstes CIA, die die geheimdienstlichen Aktivitäten sämtlicher US-Nachrichtendienste im Bereich der Human Intelligence (HUMINT) koordiniert. Der National Clandestine Service hat bei seiner Gründung im Oktober 2005 die bisherige Operationsleitung (Directorate of Operations) der CIA und deren Aufgaben zur Gänze übernommen. - De National Clandestine Service (NCS) is een onderdeel van de CIA dat tot taak heeft als nationale autoriteit te fungeren om de inspanningen op het gebied van human intelligence van de verschillende inlichtingendiensten in en buiten de Verenigde Staten te coördineren. Het opzetten van de NCS werd in maart 2005 bepleit door een presidentiële commissie en werd in oktober 2005 goedgekeurd door de President Bush. Het is een van de wijzigingen in de structuur van de Amerikaanse inlichtingenstructuur die het gevolg is van het falen van deze diensten bij het voorkomen van de terroristische aanslagen op 11 september 2001.
