Ein unautorisierter Nachdruck erschien noch im selben Herbst 1819 im Wiener Unterhaltungsblatt Der Sammler. 1820 fand sich die Erzählung im dritten Band von Hoffmanns von 1819 bis 1821 in vier Bänden publiziertem Zyklus Die Serapionsbrüder. In den folgenden fünf Jahrzehnten wurden allein im deutschsprachigen Raum fast zwanzig weitere Abdrucke veröffentlicht. Das Fräulein von Scuderi gilt als erste deutsche Kriminalnovelle und handelt von der Aufklärung einer rätselhaften Mordserie im Paris des 17. La signorina Scudéry venne tradotto in Polonia fin dal 1822. La scrittrice Madeleine de Scudéry, scelta da Hoffmann come protagonista della sua storia, è realmente vissuta nella Francia del Seicento. A questo racconto si è ispirato il musicista Paul Hindemith per la sua opera Cardillac. (it)
