- Maphrian (ab 11. Jh.), auch: „Metropolit/Katholikos des Ostens“ (ab 6. Jh.), war der Titel des Oberhaupts der syrisch-orthodoxen, „jakobitischen“ Kirche im Gebiet des (ehemaligen) Perserreichs der Sasaniden. Die „anti-nestorianische“ Kirche der Jakobiten war dabei in Mesopotamien (Irak) hauptsächlich in der Gegend um Tikrit und Mossul vertreten. Heute wird der Titel in seiner griechischen Form „Katholikos“ von den zwei Oberhäuptern der syrisch-orthodoxen Thomaschristen in Indien getragen. (de)
- Mafrián (en siríaco, ܡܦܪܝܢܐ maphryānā) es históricamente el segundo más alto rango en la jerarquía eclesiástica de la Iglesia ortodoxa siriana, justo debajo de la de patriarca. El oficio de un mafrián es un mafrianato. Se considera equivalente al título occidental de primado. Ha habido tres mafrianatos en la historia de la Iglesia ortodoxa siriana y uno, brevemente, en la Iglesia católica siria. La palabra "mafrián" deriva del árabe mafiryān, que lo tomó del siríaco maphryono (mprynʾ), que significa "el que da fruto, fructificador", metafóricamente "consagrador" de obispos. (es)

- Mafrian, właściwie mafrian i katolikos Wschodu (aram. mafriono „konsekrator”) – godność kościelna specyficzna dla Kościoła jakobickiego; metropolita o specyficznej, bardzo szerokiej jurysdykcji, równej jurysdykcji patriarszej. W czasach nowożytnych godność mafriana stała się czysto tytularna i przysługiwała jakobickim metropolitom Jerozolimy. Ostatni dostojnik jakobicki noszący tytuł mafriana Wschodu – Behnama IV – zmarł w 1895. Obecnie mafrianami bywają nazywani jakobiccy metropolici w południowych Indiach. (pl)
